K9 Advantix works great on my dog. He is a little more active than most and likes to run around in the rain, so the medication doesn’t always last a whole month for him. It lasts about two and a half to three weeks if it’s raining a lot. It does kill every flea that touches him. Another thing I like about this product is the repelling ability. It kills whatever is on my dog, and keeps new bugs away. I use K9 Advantix every month, and my dog stays happy. Remember: You get what you pay for, and your dog won’t be happy if you’re using the cheap brands under $10. You might as well throw your money away, because fleas are immune to the lesser-brand medications now.

Also, I’m glad to see Amazon selling this MUCH cheaper than other stores. I went all over the internet looking for cheap meds for my dog. Then I thought, I’ll check out Amazon, they sell everything. Shop around, you’ll see.

I tried Advantix (as opposed to Advantage) for the first time recently and immediately noticed that my dog was having a strong reaction to it. She stayed up all night panting heavily and periodically would run in circles. I checked the package insert and it said nothing about possible adverse reactions, and the product website also failed to warn of potential problems. However, I read on a vet’s site that Advantix, unlike Advantage, is known to cause a variety of side effects, including hyper-activity, which was obviously what was going on with my dog. This site said not to use the product again in the event of a bad reaction. Not only was I unhappy with the product, but was upset that Bayer didn’t bother to list possible side effects. Very irresponsible. I won’t use any of their pet products again.

Our two dogs became infested with fleas a couple years ago. We tried a ton of different medications, and were about to ‘bomb’ the house when our vet recommended K9 Advantix. Within one week there were NO fleas, not on the dogs, not in the house. Before using K9 Advantix, I’d sit at night picking fleas off our one poodle, and we were desperate for a solution. This is a fabulous product. As we didn’t have experience with ticks or mosquitos when using this product, I can’t comment on them, but for fleas, this is the best. I was told by a salesperson at Petsmart that Advantix has a repellant in it besides something to kill the fleas, and Frontline, its main competitor, has only a flea killer, which won’t work until the flea bites the dog.

In addition, I found a review by the NIH regarding the two medications for ticks and I quote an excerpt from the abstract: “The number of live ticks on the control dogs ranged from a geo. mean of 12.0 to 29.5 ticks per dog during the study. Percent efficacy for the K9 Advantix group ranged from 84.0 to 98.5 % between test days 3 and 35. Percent efficacy for the Frontline Plus group ranged from -28.1 to 56.8% during the corresponding period.”

You can find this study report yourself by googling as shown with the quotes: “K9 Advantix vs Frontline”.

Sounds pretty definitive to me. We’re sticking with Advantix.

I have used this product on my active pointer since he was just a young pup and he has yet to ever have a flea or tick. I have found ticks on him, but they were dead. This product is wonderful. You have to remember though, its very important to not bathe your dog within 48 hours of applying the Advantix because it works with the natural skin oils and they must not get wet for around 24 hours or so afterwards to achieve maximum effect.

This product is great! He gets into trees, ponds, bushes, fields, etc. and never brings home fleas or ticks. Which is nice because the cat wouldn’t appreciate that. It is worth the hefty price you shell out for it. Once a flea gets into your home, they are everywhere. It is very difficult to remove fleas from your home once there is an infestation. Best to place this product on your dog to prevent it from happening to begin with.

I would never have applied this product to my dog if I had known what it would do. I applied it as directed, and everywhere it touched her skin is inflamed and red, her whole body is hot and she is in agony, twitching and whimpering. She keeps trying to scratch her back and cannot sleep or relax. I am waiting for a return call from the vet now. Please do not use this product, I feel horrible because I was just trying to help her and I will never forgive myself if she dies. Once I realized there was a problem, I immeadiately washed her with dishsoap but it didn’t help. I will say that my other two dogs are just fine after application, but it isn’t worth the chance.

Review by L.A. Garrison for Novartis Capstar Flea Treatment Blue Tabs for Dogs and Cats
      Rating:
Apparently some cats and dogs respond badly to this medication, but it works wonderfully for my cat.

She weighs just 10 pounds, so I give her half a tablet (I cut them apart in a regular pill cutter) and any fleas she’s picked up fall off and die. My vet explained to me that the chemical in Capstar isn’t recognized by the animal’s body – it just passes through without being absorbed and broken down. It comes out as a gas through the pores of the skin, and acts on the fleas like cyanide gas acts on people. It’s instantly lethal to the fleas. Unfortunately, when the fleas get the first whiff of gas, they respond by biting REALLY HARD in a reflexive reaction. Some cats and dogs who have several fleas may experience sudden very hard bites in many areas of their bodies, which could account for the jumping around and panting. It doesn’t feel very good. Flea bites are terrible under normal circumstances, and their “death bites” are worse.

About twenty minutes after I give her the half-tablet, my cat starts scratching and/or licking hard at any fleas that are biting her. It goes on for about 10-15 minutes. Then they fall off and die. They don’t completely die right away, so I stay away from her during this phase, or they’ll jump on me and start their dying bites, and it’s not pleasant!

Since I only give her half a tablet, a box lasts me twice as long as usual. I give her a tablet every 3 weeks or so, whenever she picks up a flea or two or three. She’s an outside cat so we struggle with this off and on all summer. I also take her to the vet to get her Program shot, which works in conjunction with the Capstar tablets. Program keeps the fleas from laying fertile eggs, so the house doesn’t get infested.

Was using Frontline for years until last summer. It just wasn’t working any more. I was having a hell of a time trying to rid my three cats and dogs of fleas. This product did the job! I actually saw the dead fleas falling off. I now use Revolution to keep it that way!

I got this product because we suddenly had a flea infestation on both my cats and my chihuahua. It worked great to kill the adult fleas and started within about 2 hours. But I would VERY strongly recommend that you have a long term treatment immediately available. I bought a topical solution as well but it had not been delivered yet and the flea eggs already on my dog hatched in the meantime. My dog was COVERED in fleas the day after! I gave him another dose and applied the topical solution and now he is flea-free. YOU WILL NEED SOMETHING TO KILL THE EGGS ALSO!!!

If you need a fast acting flea med while you sit around and wait for the monthly medicine to work, give your animal capstar at the sametime. I give a capstart and a Program chew tab eachmonth. Yes we have issues with fleas, so bad my children get bitten up so we have a need for serious flea control.

I feed about 20 feral cats. It is impossible to put a spot flea treatment on these sweet little wild creatures.

Therefore, I mix the Capstar flea treatment in their food. I crush the the pill in their separate bowl and they

eat it without a complaint. I use Capstar in conjunction with Program to keep the fleas away.

I bought this product on Amazon, which always has great prices. Thanks Amazon for great service and

      great prices.
